Monday’s discussion focused on the children’s museum portion of the proposal. Community members and organizations submitted many letters and responses to City Council that supported the children’s museum.
GRAND HAVEN — Visions of a bustling waterfront space at Chinook Pier, the north end of the Grand Haven boardwalk on the banks of the Grand River, were the talk of Monday night’s city council meeting.

“Spring Lake resident Rachel Dody remembers visiting the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum with her husband and young daughter for the first time more than seven years ago. “We left the museum feeling inspired and wanting more. I remember saying something like, “How great would it be if we had a children’s museum like that close to home?”…
“The Tri-Cities Women Who Care held its first meeting of 2024 in March and awarded more than $26,000 to help develop the concept and cover some of the start up costs for The Grand Haven Children’s Museum.”

Children’s museums are community resources that invest in the wellbeing of kids and families. They are open-ended environments that inspire the next generation of designers, problem-solvers, and collaborators through play and hands-on learning.

How long have you lived here?
I’ve been in West Michigan my whole life – I grew up in Whitehall, lived in Holland during college, then Norton Shores and Muskegon. I now live in Spring Lake with my husband and three kids, who are 4, 6, and 8 – we’ve been here just over six years now and are so happy to call the Tri-Cities home.
